Renee Rotolo received her Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut
(UConn), followed by a one-year postdoc also at UConn. Her academic research sought to assess the
ability of novel pharmacological compounds to treat motivational dysfunctions in a preclinical model.
Prior to earning her Ph.D., Renee completed her master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, where
she studied neuroinflammation and behavior in a rodent model of Multiple Sclerosis. She also spent
time gaining exposure to clinical research as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Psychiatry. A few years
into her graduate studies, Renee became interested in exploring non-academic career opportunities,
and in 2020, she co-founded the “Ask and Tell with MSLs” webinar series. Renee transitioned into the
biotech industry as a Medical Science Liaison at Sage Therapeutics, where she has been for the past
year. Renee is based in Boston, MA, and enjoys traveling, eating seafood, and developing her green
thumb. Renee will discuss her transition from academia to industry, including several challenges and advice that
she has encountered along the way.
