For our September meet-up, A2I has invited Dr. Jill Wykosky to speak with the group. For this meeting, Takeda Pharmaceuticals has generously offered to host us at their company location.
Jill is currently Director and Head of GI Biology in the Gastroenterology Drug Discovery Unit at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, based at the San Diego research site. She leads a group focused on target identification, validation and drug discovery in the area of gastrointestinal disorders. In addition, she is the Portfolio Leader for GI Motility disorders. Before joining Takeda, Jill was a post-doctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Tumor Biology at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR) San Diego Branch. Her work there focused on therapeutic resistance to small molecule inhibitors in brain tumors. She has extensive experience in oncology signal transduction, cell and molecular biology, and in vivo models of brain tumors and has worked as part of many multi-disciplinary collaboration teams on various projects and publications. Jill's research efforts focused on translational neuro-oncology with an emphasis on integrating use of clinical material and data with basic laboratory science. In addition, Jill is the founder of the LICR Career Development Series at the Ludwig Institute San Diego. Jill obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine with a focus in Cancer Biology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Here she characterized a novel target for brain tumor drug development and discovered a previously unknown function for a soluble ligand in tumor cells. These discoveries led to over 40 published abstracts and peer-reviewed journal articles. Her technical expertise during this time was target identification and validation for molecular targeted therapies and design, production and testing of targeted recombinant immunotoxins. Jill graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh, where she conducted honors thesis research regarding the utilization of sulfur by alternative pathways in bacteria.
A2I is co-hosted by Takako Noguchi, Qiong Song & Norazizah Shafee.
