Mission statement:

The Events Committee provides an opportunity to create connections among
people interested in promoting women working in science.

Purpose of the committee:

• Organize regularly scheduled chapter events to promote communication
within the chapter and between AWIS-SD and the San Diego scientific
community.

• Provide a forum for discussion of issues pertinent to women in science-
related fields.

• Provide networking, personal, and professional development opportunities
for AWIS-SD members.

Committee member benefits:

• Your Volunteer Experience will help you to develop skills outside of the
pressures of the workforce.

• Learn organization skills, how to obtain speakers, book venues, plan catering and advertise events.

• Practice public speaking skills by introducing guest speakers and making
AWIS announcements at events.

• Perfect your networking skills by continually meeting new people in the
STEM field.
